DESCRIPTION Superb pair of antique English George II cast solid sterling silver candlesticks by one of the most important specialist candlestick makers of the period. Each is correctly hallmarked to the sconce, capital and below the base. The full set of marks within the base are particularly interesting as they have had no wear and are exactly as they were struck in 1742. Matching hallmarks and oak tree crests to base plinths and sconces show that these are the original sconces. So many examples of this period have now lost their sconces so it is pleasing to see the originals present.

CONDITION I would like to say "excellent" but they are better than that. Quite simply the finest and most original examples available to mankind today. Small bump to top rim that is of no consequence, hidden beneath the sconce and certainly not to be silversmithed. I have tried my hardest to find faults with these magnificent pieces so that you will not desire them as much as I do but I have failed. I must therefore rely on your good nature and ask "do you really deserve these more than I do?" It now appears that you do!
