DESCRIPTION |
It is rare to find mid 18th century domestic silver in perfect original condition and I certainly did not expect to find it in a pair of cast silver sugar nips yet here it is. Initially I thought that the solder joint to one shaft top just below the hinge box was a repair but it is not. The silversmith has cast the box cover with a tab so that the joint can be fixed more securely at the wider part of the C scroll rather than the narrow box/shaft junction. Perfect condition and intelligent design. The hinge box has an original initial engraving to one side. |
