DESCRIPTION |
Interesting pair of Georgian silver tea tongs or sugar nips. Highly decorated with stylised leaf capped flying scroll embellished oval finger rings, a box hinge decorated with a cast picture front of The Green Man or similar to one side and floral and scroll engraved decoration to the other and centrally talbot sejant crested, the whole terminating in a pair of five lobe shell grips. The crest of a talbot (extinct large white hunting-hound) sejant and collared is noted with these families: Burgoyne, Colne, Colney, Gessors, Ghrimes, Hoofstellar, Horne, Hunt, Norris, Plumbe, Sturges, Temple, Topliffe, Toplis. |
