DESCRIPTION |
Extremely scarce pair of Georgian Irish silver sugar nips with a small initial engraving to one finger ring and a flower decorated hinge |
SILVERSMITH |
There is rubbed mark below the crowned harp but I cannot quite read it. In his book on the subject, Dr David Shlosberg mentions 'An extremely rare pair of Dublin Tea Tongs - the only pair recorded bearing a date letter. To date, 108 pairs of Tea Tongs made in Ireland have been recorded - only 61 of these have accompanying makers' marks'. This is not the pair David is talking about so it is more likely to be a rubbed makers' mark rather than a date letter. |

Images 4 and 6 below show the lower C scrolls, front and back. Look at the lower scroll on the right in image 4 and the left in image 6. A little silver appears within the engraved decoration. This could be evidence of a repair and it is a likely spot for one but I am not certain. |
