| DESCRIPTION | Probable pair of antique English George I cast solid silver sugar tongs of andiron (fire tong) form with shaped angular top. Most recent history, used as eucharist dispenser from the beautiful pyx I also have for sale at the moment. |
| SILVERSMITH | the single mark present I have not been able to read hence the 'probable' at the start of my description |
| DATE or HALLMARK | c.1720 |
| WEIGHT in GRAMS | 19 |
| LENGTH | 4 ¾", 122mm |
| SILVER STANDARD | I was expecting to see maker's or 1720's ·925 sterling silver mark within the bowl but this mark I cannot quite read. It is a lion passant if you squint but then it isn't when you look again and appears as a maker's mark instead. Being struck into a curved bowl has not helped. For this reason there is the word 'probable' at the start of my description. |
| CONDITION | I would say excellent for this type of item from this period, no repairs just a few bends and wobbles. |
