DESCRIPTION | Georgian silver sugar tongs with bright cut engraved decoration, original initials to the bow and the Adam style floral engraving so typical of this maker. Interesting construction, transitional between the three section cast arms plus sprung bow type and the single piece with sprung bow. The latter type had more or less superseded the former by the time that silver duty was reintroduced in December 1784 so it is fitting to see the first (incuse) new duty mark to this pair. |
