DESCRIPTION | Very good antique English Victorian solid sterling silver double compartment vesta case (match safe) with engine turned decoration and a blank 'C' scroll cartouche that has never been engraved. The larger box for your fresh vestas and the smaller for the spent and complete with steel strike to the lid. I think the steel strike is given a dedicated compartment to avoid accidental ignition and to keep your hands and pockets clean following a strike. |

CONDITION | internally gunky when I found it so I cleaned it up just enough to check the condition and beneath the surface deposits it is exceptionally good. Often the chemicals from the vestas erode the silver but here we are all good, the surface gunk came off with a mixed solvent and cotton bud, no polish required, and I have no doubt that the rest will clean off fine should you wish. I like it as it is so have left the cleaning/polishing at this level. |
