DESCRIPTION

A silver double sovereign case also fitted as a stamp case and with the possibly unique feature of an extra clip in the lid. This extra and sprung clip would hold a folded bank note or perhaps the high value parcel post stamps of the day. The lid has a fiendishly clever one handed opening mechanism. The design registration number 621492 marked to the lid tallies with the date of manufacture and so this is an early example.

OVERALL CONDITION

good, no repairs, monograms or erasures. The lid is piano hinged along one side with the catch to the centre of an adjacent side. This design means the corner furthest away from the hinge and the clasp does not close completely as shown in the final image.

FAULTS

A few very slight dings to the outer case and the ball terminal to the catch has had a knock to one side of the top leaving it slightly misshapen.
