| DESCRIPTION | Rare Georgian solid sterling silver marrow scoop with a fancy back beef bowl also engraved 'W'. Fancy back spoons of this period can still be found but a marrow scoop is rare. I think this is the first example that I have seen outside a reference book. The metal to the bowl around the fancy is extra thick and there is not even a hint of the fancy pattern within the bowl so we can be certain that this is a genuine George II example and not later decorated. The initial engraving is the original and from the period. Beautifully well struck and preserved hallmarks except for the maker's which is a little off-centre. |
