CONDITION | excellent, thick silver, beautiful original condition. Little rub to the top of each leg from a display stand. Spending most of its life supported vertically on a display stand and rarely seeing active service goes a long way in explaining the fantastic condition of this piece. Yes, you have a point, "why is there also a rub to what would be the top leg as the stand would only rub the two lower legs?" I propose that with the passage of time the original owner's armorial lost significance and when the salver was replaced in the stand after a light clean or occasional use the orientation of the old engraving was not always respected or noticed. |
