| DESCRIPTION | Superb George II antique English solid sterling silver salver with a good central crest engraving and three scroll and pad feet. Three feet enable it to sit flat on any surface. Verso, wonderful, well struck and still clear hallmarks and a discreet betrothal engraving. Stylistically the betrothal initials engraving appears to be the first and original, the frontal crest (dog fish?) a generation or two later, probably as the family's status increased. |
| SILVERSMITH | Dorothy Mills, unusual but not unique to find a lady silversmith of this period. Dorothy recorded her first mark after the death of her silversmith husband Hugh in 1746. |
