DESCRIPTION | Very good antique Irish Georgian solid sterling silver Bright-cut Irish (Celtic) Pointed Old English Star pattern sauce ladle with a fluted and shell bowl and good frontal crest engraving. The silver is still thick and stiff and yet the bowl has a leftwards bias as if to create a gentle pouring lip for the right handed. I first thought the bowl might be a bit bent/squashed but no, the flutes are longer and wider on the left side so this is an intentional feature of the manufacture. |

CONDITION | excellent, far above average, no splits, no repairs, the Bright-cut decoration is still crisp and the silver thick. I have only tickle polished so the item is nice and clean for use but the crispness of decoration has not been compromised by a heavy wheel polish. Tickle polishing does not remove the millions of tiny surface marks that are a feature of old silver and best seen in the last (hallmarks) image |
