Good Quality Irish Georgian solid sterling silver Bright-cut Old English Flower Head pattern soup ladle with a
crested cartouche. Straight sides to the stem and thick silver throughout.
Wonderfully well struck and still clear bottom marks and a discreet capital 'K' initial to the bowl drop.
Adams.ie sold a similar, slightly smaller and in my opinion not as good example lot 79, 06-09-2016 for €340 + commission + taxes. |

excellent, thick silver, engraved decoration all good, lovely hallmarks, signs of use to the bowl including soft
bumps and a couple of knife digs one of which is quite heavy.
This usually occurs when a steel bladed knife is dropped into the wash tub and the blade tip lands in the bowl.
If this ladle is to be your daily souper then I would have my silversmith correct at least the central bowl dig. There would be no charge.
If for the collection only, I would leave all alone and consider the marks as part of this piece's history. It is a lovely example either way. |
