| DESCRIPTION | Interesting set of six vintage English solid sterling silver Hanoverian with Rat Tail pattern demitasse coffee spoons with no engraving or erasure. One has been assayed at each of the British assay offices open in 1934. Stylistically these are good reproductions of Hanoverian pattern of the 1740s, still with the full length rat tail and central rib but bowl now a little broader and shallower than the 1720s. However, a little point of interest for those who enjoy such pedantry as much as I do, there are two spoons that could not have existed in the 1740s. They are the Birmingham and Sheffield marked examples for those assay offices did not open until 1773. |
