DESCRIPTION | Vintage English solid sterling silver ? with a gilded interior. The stem is solid cast silver but I think that the plate to the base that has a central hole may be plated base metal. I first thought this was an egg cup from a stand with the base hole to take a little steadying spike but nothing appears to have been regularly inserted into the hole and the cup is a bit too small for a modern standard medium hen's egg. Next thought, a miniature goblet but it is a bit big for that and why the hole to the base? Perhaps a cordial, sherry or spirits cup but again, why the hole? I am out of ideas now, you are encouraged to share yours. Holds 30ml. |
