DESCRIPTION | Pair of Georgian silver cauldron salts with fully gilded interiors, tight gadroon decoration applied to the top rim, three hoof feet and the original initial 'B' engraving. At this period Hester was using both wavy gadroon and bead decoration to the top rims of her cauldron salts. This pair is an unusual crossover design where the tight gadrooning of the top rim simulates a bead edge. The gilding protects the silver from corrosive action by the salt and negates the need for a glass liner. These are safe for food use. |
