DESCRIPTION | Very good Georgian silver caster with a plain baluster body and pierced and engraved pull off top. Discreetly engraved beneath the ring turned pedestal foot are the original initials. The position of this engraving may explain the otherwise suspiciously good condition of the caster body. Usually, erased engravings to the body leave thin spots and the body vulnerable to bumps and splits. This example has no thin spots so it likely that is has only ever been engraved with the initials beneath the foot. The silver is thick throughout and the hallmarks wonderfully clear. |
