DESCRIPTION | Edwardian English solid sterling silver squeeze action tobacco box with concealed hinge, matt gilded interior and crest above motto engraved lid. You hold in one hand, squeeze the sides, the lid pops open and you fill your pipe bowl with your other hand. The spring action is about right now but I expect that when new it was stronger, hence the bumps. The lid would have opened with gusto and the box leapt out of your hand. |

WEIGHT in GRAMS | 93 |

CONDITION | good, thick silver, rubbing to the engraving, surface marks and bumps, so many bumps in fact that even the bumps have bumps and yet all works fine. My silversmith could remove all bumps and polish but if you plan to use this box for the original purpose then I advise leaving all as is because these items are notoriously droppable. Inside is one hundred years of tobacco residue that will clean off easily to reveal the gilding but it seems a shame to remove that nostalgia and history so I have left it in place. Smells good too. |
