Georgian silver pap boat with an applied reeded top rim, gilded interior and pointed oval bowl. These items were used for feeding pap, a semi-liquid made from bread, milk and optional alcohol, to infants and invalids. The gilded interior, large size and strong construction leads me to believe that this boat was designed for use by an adult, quite possibly invalided from one of the many wars that Britain pursued during this period to consolidate the empire. The reeded top rim gives this piece strength and rigidity and a little extra sign of quality is the lip rim that has been turned over upon itself for the same reasons. I have pictured below the junction of the lip rim, top rim and body where you can still see the original solder. |

excellent, no repairs, monograms or erasures and completely original. The gilding is rubbed to the high spots in a way utterly commensurate with use and so could be original but I doubt it on a piece this old. |
