DESCRIPTION Antique English Victorian solid sterling silver travelling pot with a crest engraving to the body and hinged lid and an unscrewable hexaform ebony handle that will fit inside the body. Similar lidded pots have been noted as part of travelling shaving sets and this maker is noted for shaving sets but I am still not certain of the exact purpose of this pot. The base is correctly hallmarked as a separate piece (in construction) yet the marks have been placed to the inside. This is unusual. Perhaps the contents were warmed over a spirit burner or candle and the maker wanted to protect his marks. If so, this pot was likely used to warm the water for your shave. All thoughts are welcome. Detectable but not strong smell of old fashioned scent from within the pot.
