DESCRIPTION | Magnificent, high quality antique English Victorian solid sterling silver tea caddy with engine turned decoration and a fully gilded interior. The unusual crest above the monogram is at the highest surface level so must have been engraved before the piece was finished off with the engine turned engraving. Most likely then a commissioned piece. The well fitting pull off cap is not the common form of measure but would hold about one measure of tea. The very high quality indicates that the owner was a person of great wealth and possibly some fame. The very distinctive crest with a monogram too could provide an afternoon of satisfying investigation for any inclined to do so. |
