DESCRIPTION | Superb pair of Irish Georgian solid sterling silver marrow spoons. I am calling them a pair because they were clearly made by the same silversmith at the same time but as is to be expected with handmade items there are fractional differences. They were sold by Christies auction house in London, lot 62, on 26th October 1993 for a hammer of £385 which with commission would have been a little over £500. |
SILVERSMITH | probably Joseph Cullen |
DATE or HALLMARK | circa 1768, no date letter |
ASSAY OFFICE | Dublin |
WEIGHT in GRAMS | 138 |
LENGTH | 8 ¾", 224mm, one is fractionally shorter |
SILVER STANDARD | ·925 sterling silver |
CONDITION | excellent, lovely thick metal, good hallmarks, no bumps or repairs, very lightly used. I have left these unpolished and with the Christies labels attached but I have other silver from this sale and can confirm that the sticky tape is easy to remove and has not harmed the silver. They will be an easy and satisfying home polish. |
