INDEX | ALL SILVER |
DESCRIPTION | Very good antique English George II solid sterling silver marrow scoop with beautifully well struck and preserved hallmarks and no engraving or erasure. The usual pinching of the marks on flatware of this period is from the silversmith re-finishing after the aggressive assayer has struck. The positive side of the heavy assayer's strike is the wonderful preservation of the marks. |
SILVERSMITH | Partly cursive 'JS' is similar to several registered silversmiths marks of the period, some of which are so important as to add value to this piece so I will refrain from making a positive attribution here. |
