DESCRIPTION |
Set of nine Georgian silver Old English/Hanoverian pattern four tine dessert forks, crested verso and with beautifully struck hallmarks. Dessert forks are probably the most difficult to find items of an 18th century canteen. Few
were made, almost none have survived. Here are nine from a very rare assay office shortly after it reopened and in perfect condition. I still tremble with excitement every time I handle them. |
SILVERSMITH |
John Hampston & John Prince, this is the variant of their mark with mullets and standard serifs used in the early 1780s. |
