DESCRIPTION |
Superb and very heavy solid silver wine taster inset with a silver medal commemorating the birth of the Dauphin to King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette in 1781 by Pierre Simon Benjamin Duvivier.
The front of the medal features the happy couple with the usual Latin inscription around the edge and the reverse features France represented by a seated woman with the French shield at her feet and holding the baby Dauphin in her
arms. The body is decorated with symbols of love and there is a presentation inscription below the top rim 'E. D'ANGREVILLE. 1782'. |

CONDITION |
excellent, superb, unbelievably good so I do not believe it. Although the medal may be genuine I believe that it is possible that this is a very high quality interpretation of an 18th
century French wine taster made 100 years or so later about 1883 in Hanau. If so, most or all markings are spurious. |
