INDEX | ALL SILVER |
DESCRIPTION | Antique English George I solid sterling silver octagonal caster with good and clear hallmarks to the base. An unmarked pierced silver liner is fitted within the top to allow for use with finer ground spices such as modern ground pepper. A 300 years old piece of silver that you could still happily use every day, a rare thing. |
SILVERSMITH | Thomas Bamford I, a silversmith in a continuous line of specialist caster makers beginning with Charles Adam apprenticed to Francis Archbold 1682, Thomas Bamford apprenticed to Charles Adam 1703, Samuel Wood apprenticed to Thomas Bamford 1721, Jabez Daniell apprenticed to Samuel Wood 1739, Robert Piercy apprenticed to Samuel Wood 1750.
